Papertrey Ink September 2014 Blog Hop Challenge

Can't believe that it's almost the end of September already and that we're leaving for a nice (long) vacation next week (yay!). Nichole Heady has put up an amazing inspiration photo for the Papertrey Ink September Blog Hop ...

It was the colours that really made me look twice - combos that I would not necessarily think of myself but that are so gorgeous together. Just beautiful. I want that pail of berries for my house and I also want a stamp set that replicates them! Nichole mentioned that we might be inspired to make some holiday cards, and that's what I went for - except for one everyday project.

I had never used Enchanted Evening cardstock before and I must say I love it. I stamped the City Scene houses on Sweet Blush die cuts with Smokey Shadow ink. The little trees were stamped with Ripe Avocado onto Spring Moss card.

Just had to make a shaker card! Can you tell that I'm still in love with woodgrain patterns and probably always will be? Just love this sentiment stamp (from Bells & Boughs).

One of the elements that I loved the most in the inspiration photo were those wonderful berries. I tried to capture the feel of them with stamps from Bells & Boughs and Embellished Elegance, doing some masking along the way. The bells were stamped with Soft Stone ink (I'm loving the colour and I'm so glad that it's available again!) and then heat embossed with some glitter powder.

A very simple thank you card, using stamped Beautiful Brushstrokes die cuts against some Studio Calico patterned paper. The sentiment was heat embossed with gold metallic powder.

Peace Feathers

There's some gorgeous inspiration up on the Case Study Challenge Blog, again from this month's muse, Debby Hughes.

I just love what Debby does with whites and vellum and all those pretty details. I was definitely inspired by everything she used - the gold, the white, the kraft, the feathers. Here is my card:

We're enjoying a very dull cloudy day so it was difficult to get a nice photo. The middle feather was masked and the top was embossed with some Zing Gold Metallic embossing powder while the bottom was glittered.  It's a very simple, even plain card, but I love the way each piece fit together exactly like a puzzle.

Shiny Pink

They had me at shiny pink. That's all it takes to get me wanting to make a card! I'm talking about the new challenge up at the Fusion Card Challenge blog. Our inspiration ...

Wow, love that pink car! I was most influenced by that gorgeous pink, but I kind of followed the sketch also, just turned it around a bit.

I am still totally in love with Altenew's Painted Flowers stamp set and can't imagine ever tiring of it. Mind you, I don't find the flowers easy to put together and have to use the guide for each and every flower, but I don't care, it's worth it. Oh, though it's so hard to capture in a photo, I did add some lovely Wink of Stella clear to the flowers to add a bit of a shine factor.

Butterfly Vine: CAS(E) this Sketch #91

I decided to play along again this week over at CAS(E) this Sketch! It's a simple one, with so many possibilities. After I made my card, I looked at all of the designer inspiration and submissions. Wow! There are so many incredible cardmakers out there!

Here is my card ...

I cut a card front out of PTI Spring Moss, embossed it with PTI's woodgrain impression plate, first inking up the plate with a Fresh Ink Paper White inkpad. The rest was super simple, just die cuts really. I decided I wanted a leafy vine to act as my banner and from there it just moved to the butterfly accent.

CASE Study Challenge #207

Another first-time challenge for me! I could not resist this week's inspiration from the September muse, Debby Hughes, over at the CASE Study Challenge blog. It's all vellum and white and complete prettiness. The Design Team's cards are out of this world fabulous and so is the entire gallery.

Debby Hughes is one of my most favourite cardmaking idols. Her skill level is amazing and she seems to be able to do any and all styles with ease, while still always being true to herself. I'm just so thankful that she shares! Here is her card for this week's challenge ...

And this is what I came up with ...

I die cut my Lovely Layer leaves out of vellum, stamping the backside of them with a Fresh Ink Mint inkpad, smudging them all up, and then embossing the details of the leaves with Stampendous White Detail embossing powder on the front of the vellum. For those who want to know, "bisous" is French for "kisses".

I've really been in the mood for making cards this week and I'm having fun finding new challenges to participate in. I was tempted by the Back to School theme over at The Card Concept when I saw this week's inspiration ...

It was the chalkboard that got me and here is what I made ...

Lots of embossing and lots of fun to make.

CAS(E) this sketch #90

Back with a second post today. this time a quick and easy birthday card for the current challenge over at CAS(E) this sketch!. Here is the sketch for this week ...

The design team did an awesome job with this sketch and so did all of the many participants. I always seem to need another birthday card in my stash so that's what I made.

I played with my new (to me) Simon Says Stamp Air Vent die. I can see using this a lot for pepperminty Christmas Projects! Added a little bit of glitter to the top petals of my Oopsie Daisy flower and pretty much called it a day. It looks a bit like a gift box to me!

Tag You're It! Challenge #5

Could not resist the inspiration, provided by Donna Mikasa, this time around over at the Tag You're It! Challenge #5. I loved everything about it (maybe that's why I pretty much COPIED it!). See for yourself!

I mean, yummy bright flowers against Kraft is such a gorgeous combination. When combined with a crisp white sentiment it is totally irresistible and so I didn't even try.

I made a little tag pocket, complete with a thank-you gift card tucked inside. I love doing these and at Christmas I usually make pretty pockets for all my gift cards and just hang them on the tree.

The pocket by itself ...

The gift card wrap. I used some double-sided paper from Sassafras Lass (I know, old!) ...

And the whole package together ...

Cardstock: PTI Kraft, Stamper's Select White, Aqua Mist, Hibiscus Burst, Harvest Gold, Simply Chartreuse
Stamps: PTI Ruby Rose, Bold Bouquet Anniversary
Inks: PTI Hibiscus Burst, Summer Sunrise, Lemon Tart; Fresh Ink Pool

Fusion (Old Door Charm)

There is some new inspiration up over at the Fusion Card Challenge, Old Door Charm.

When I participate in a challenge I try really hard not to see what the design team has done with the inspiration until after I've made my project (then I look). Well, the design team did amazing work and I noticed that I'm using apple elements, just like Lynn Mangan did. This was pure coincidence!

Here is my card ...

I've had back to school on my brain because two of my grandsons started kindergarten last week. I was super busy but it was so much fun! They were hilarious in how casual they were about it all. Or at least they pretended that it was no big deal.

I was influenced by the photo - mostly by the colours but also by the door frame "compartments" and by the type. I didn't go as vintage as the old painted door, but I did emboss my front panel using a woodgrain impression plate that was first inked up with some distress inks - Fired Brick and Vintage Photo. Next, I used an ink blending tool to add some PTI Vintage Cream ink and then finished the panel by dipping a toothpick in some Fired Brick ink and scratching it over the woodgrain.
